“The Past” by Brandi

Although the past is not a place we should dwell,
Understanding it’s lessons will serve us all well.
It is not a place in which we should frequently park,
But visiting it on occasion can bring light to the dark.

We sometimes wonder how we ever arrived at this place,
Reflecting on the past provides a path we can trace.
The past has an influence, whether we like it or not,
Impacting our lives daily either a little or a lot.

It is important to identify the mistakes in our life,
To recognize the source of conflict and strife.
Understanding the accumulation of generations of sin,
May explain why we repeat them over again.

Laden with baggage from those we never knew,
While some is from loved ones or those in the pew.
Our moms and our dads even do their part,
Laying foundations for what we believe in our heart.

This visit is not for the placing of blame,
Otherwise the tragedy will remain the same.
The healing of wounds is what this is for,
So that in God-given freedom our heart may soar!

Our past we can try to reject or deny,
But it still has a way of interrupting our life.
It often dictates how we relate to others,
Everyone from strangers to sisters & brothers.

To forget the past would leave us all incomplete,
After-all, the memories we cannot “delete”.
But reflection can help us to learn and mature,
And ultimately understand where we are going for sure.

If in our present the past we can embrace,
We will finally discover how we came to this place.
The baggage can be opened and removed piece by piece,
And with this generation the cycle can cease!

To become like Christ is our ultimate goal,
And through this reflection He can heal our soul.
God wants us to remember that from which we have come,
So that we might truly appreciate the gift of His Son.

First let me say its good to be back here to these forums after having been gone a long time.  Civil conversations are much better than the flame wars I have become accustomed to.

Granted I am not to old.  Nor am I exactly very young. I recently met up with an old friend of mine.  We hadnt seen eachother since we were about 6 or 7 years old.  It was actualy quite hard to believe she recognized me after all the time that had past.  But we got to talking and have alot in common now. Much more than which ninja turtle was cooler.  Im not quite sure where im going with this but i found it to be a great time.  Being able to reconnect with someone from 10 years ago. Im about to ramble so Ill end by posing a question.  Have any of you ever unexpectedly run into an old friend?
