I posted:

I am egal.

I do not agree that woman is a name, altho Eve/Chavah is. There is no use of the Hebrew word “shem” (name) in Gen 2 but is in Gen 3. So what is woman/ishshah? It is an observation that she is similar but different from the man/ish.

agreed.

Both the man and woman were designated as male and female by God when God named them Adam/Human.  God also designated man and woman when He brought 'woman' to the man. We know this by inference because the man only knew that this creature was from 'man' because God told him so. The man was repeating in jubilant song what God had already told him. And finally woman and man are designations, not names.

I am encouraged that people have actually taken the time to read the endnotes.

I am thinking about what Don and TL have said, and I agree with you. I'm not sure that what I wrote in endnote 8 is very different.

[8]While God had indeed called all humans “adam”, Adam, the first human, did name his wife.  When Adam first saw his wife, he called her ishshah-woman corresponding to ish-man (Genesis 2:23), and later, Eve-living (Genesis 3:20).  These unimaginative “names” seem to merely reflect his observations of the first woman.

I could make it clearer I suppose.  And specify that "Eve" is a legitimate name, and not merely a "designation".

Thanks for the feedback. Smiley

Thank you for responding Marg.  And that would make it clearer, since man and woman are simply the male and female designations of humans and not names.

Since Eve is a name given after the fall, we can then ask when was the man authorized to do this.

My site has been hacked, so please don't go on it for the time being.   Sad

I'll let you know when it is fine again.

It wasn't an isolated attack.  It involved two of my host's grids.

Thankfully it was more of a nuisance hack that a dangerous, malicious hack.  It was redirecting visitors to a site offering free web hosting.  (As if anyone would want to do business with such unscrupulous people???)

I am pretty sure that my host has fixed the exploit completely, but I'm waiting for a friend of mine to run some diagnostics on my site before I reopen it.

I have run thorough scans on my two computers and they are clean and unaffected so there doesn't seem to be an insidious virus, etc, involved in this attack. Smiley

My website www.newlife.id.au is back online, cleaned and reinforced!!!  Grin

I was a bit worried that my articles would go down in Google rankings while the site was unavailable, but they have actually gone up (from my vantage point in Australia, that is.)

I'm wondering how my articles are ranking in the US and Canada.  At the moment I am getting just as many visits to my site from America and Canada as I do from Australia.  (I do realise that Australia has a relatively small population.)

Anyway . . . Does anyone have the time or inclination to google some of my articles or tags and see what page or position they are in your country???  embarassed

Some suggestions for googling are: "A Suitable Helper"   "Women in Ministry Debate"  "the created order"
Or more specific titles are "Junia and the ESV"  "1 Timothy 2:12 in Context"  "New Testament Women Church Leaders"

It doesn't hurt to ask - I hope  blush2
